Jobs should be ‘flexible by default’

Age UK believes that all jobs should be ‘flexible by default’. Employers would have to show that a role could not be done on a flexible basis before turning down a flexible work request.

Often seen as a perk for working mothers, flexible work is an important issue for the UK’s ageing workforce. With greater numbers of older workers wanting – or needing – to remain active in the labour market than ever before there is an increasing need to give people real opportunities to remain in paid employment.
