Fees
Fees are charged to the client as a one-off payment and will be the greater of either:
1. £1,500.00 or
2. 30 percent of the equivalent first year’s annual remuneration of the lawyer concerned as set out in their contract of employment with the client business.
Any travel expenses are charged at cost and are always agreed with the client prior to expenditure. There are no other fees.
Remuneration
Clients are responsible for paying their lawyer directly and are also responsible for all associated tax and national insurance contributions. Hourly rates, day rates and remuneration levels will vary for each job and for each individual lawyer according to a number of factors, including:-
• Number of hours required per month. Lawyers will often be more flexible on pay rates for contracts involving more hours and a higher degree of financial security while a premium may be required for a smaller number of hours.
• Number of years post-qualification experience. More experienced lawyers naturally cost more than newly qualified lawyers with little experience.
• Degree of flexibility. Some lawyers may be prepared to reduce their remuneration if the hours will fit in around family commitments.
• Market conditions. Where there is low demand for lawyers there may be greater flexibility on remuneration rates in order to secure a job.
• Level of interest in the job on offer. Lawyers may be prepared to accept a lower rate of pay where a job is particularly interesting.
• CV-enhancing experience. A lower remuneration may be agreed where the particular job or company worked for will add significant value to the lawyer’s CV or increase their chances of securing further work.
• Location. Lawyers may charge a higher rate if they have to travel long distances for the job.
Lexington Gray will agree a fair remuneration rate with the lawyer and the client before the lawyer takes up their position with the client.
