a new approach

Clients

Lexington Gray works closely with client businesses to match their needs with highly skilled lawyers who are looking to work part time and flexibly. Clients can employ a lawyer directly for as many hours as necessary. Typical hourly rates are less than 50 percent of the hourly rates charged by law firms for similarly qualified lawyers.

Most law firms calculate hourly rates according to the experience and expertise of the lawyers concerned, but the cost also includes an overhead and profit element.

Until recently, the only alternatives to this regime were either to...

1. Employ a lawyer directly in house, full time or substantially part time; or

2. Make do without legal advice and hope to muddle through.

In these difficult financial times, many businesses are struggling to pay their own overheads and are put off by private practice fee structures. In addition, firms often bill more than originally estimated for a transaction, making budgeting control extremely difficult for the client.

Complete flexibility

Instead of employing a full-time lawyer Lexington Gray can arrange for a lawyer to work for a client company either on a fixed term contract (to see a project through; to cover maternity leave; to trouble shoot or to temporarily boost an existing legal team while workload is unusually heavy) or on a permanent basis at hours that suit the client business and the lawyer concerned. It could be as little as five hours a month.

Bespoke solutions

Run by a former private practice lawyer, Lexington Gray has a clear understanding of client needs and the pitfalls of trying to muddle through. Good legal help at the outset can save both time and money. Lexington Gray specialises in providing a tailor-made solution to exactly fit the needs of the client.

Value added

Clients can benefit from timely, commercial and bespoke legal advice from a lawyer who understands the needs of that particular business, at an affordable price and with accountability to the client business. The client can be in complete control of the overall cost of its legal services spend and can retain flexibility without the need to provide long-term commitment.

Many of the lawyers placed by Lexington Gray are portfolio workers – which means they may work for several different clients (subject to considerations with regard to confidentiality and conflict of interest). As a result they may have valuable knowledge and experience over and above their legal training which could enhance the knowledge and skills of the existing team at the client business.

Our lawyers work flexibly and could work from home or from the office of the client business.

Reducing legal costs

Employing a lawyer directly may not remove the need to instruct a law firm completely and cannot always match the collective knowledge of large law firms with a variety of departments and disciplines.

There may still be instances where advice from several specialist lawyers (such as tax or employment) may be advisable.

However, here too, a part-time, in-house lawyer can save clients business costs by liaising directly with the law firm concerned, agreeing market practice fee structures (including abort and fixed fees) and managing the relationship with the law firm to ensure that time costs incurred on the file are kept to a minimum while also saving the business management time.

Employing a part-time lawyer to deal with the company’s compliance and Companies House filing requirement could free up key operational staff to do the jobs that are more important to them – running their business!

Excellent service

Lexington Gray believes that the key to providing unrivalled client service is meeting the client face to face and listening to ensure that a proper understanding of the client’s culture, values and needs have been gained.

Lexington Gray is a niche recruitment agency and placing the right candidate in the right job is its absolute priority.
