General Counsel Position - Central London

11th June 2011

New instruction to help an extremely well funded charity with an endowment of over £3,000,000,000 and operating internationally to find its first Gerneral Counsel.  This is a full-time role based in Central London and with regular hours. The salary is £80-90k per year with a bonus of up to 25% and there is scope to work one day a week from home after the first six months in position.

The majority of the work will involve negotiating and managing contracts with the charity’s partner and grantee organisations but will include corporate governance and company secretarial type duties. There will also be a requirement to advise on charity regulatory issues (but the charity’s existing external legal advisers will be able to offer support and guidance on this aspect). Some experience of finance/investment law would also be of benefit but is not essential.  Ad hoc advice on general legal issues including employment law, leases, tax etc will also be required but the charity does have external advisers for anything on the complicated side.

Ideally prospective candidates will have 5 years or more general corporate/commercial experience (some of which will have been gained in-house) and will be enthusiastic about working in the not for profit sector.

The charity is extremely professional, young and dynamic and is growing rapidly. This is a role for an ambitious and committed lawyer who will enjoy the challenge and reward of working for a charity –and is definitely not for someone who thinks that the charitable sector will be ‘an easier ride’ than the City!

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced lawyer looking to combine a challenging and personally rewarding career with an alternative career structure.

If you are looking to 'put something back' and make a difference this could be the job for you.
